This is a very engaging round-table discussion from last Friday's HBO show Real Time with host Bill Maher. Ben Affleck, Andrew Sullivan and Salman Rushdie, and Bill Maher debate religious issues (One Good Move):
I tended to side more with Sullivan and Affleck. Maher seemed to over-generalize all religion to make it look as if anyone of faith lacks a brain in their head -- which as a person of faith I resented. Maher did, however, bring up an important point about the GOP using religion as a political weapon. But because I am closer to the center than Maher on social issues, Sullivan's explanation about the importance of faith seemed right on target to me.
Bullshit, religion is the scourge of the planet; look at the history of wars over 'god', jesus vs mohammed, etc. Yes, I say think spirit, not religion.
