On the syndicated weekend program the Chris Matthews Show, conservative guest Andrew Sullivan took issue not with Bush's ideology, but his Administration's willingness to lower the national dialogue by denying reality about Iraq:

SULLIVAN: "Whether you are for or against this war, no one can doubt it has been disastrously handled. For Bush to say that Rumsfeld has done a fantastic job means essentially that he is out of it. People can see that. This is not so much an election anymore, it's an intervention."
I usually find Andrew Sullivan to be over the top with his ideology, but there is no arguing with him here. If I were President Bush, I would at least admit that Iraq is not going well. Once you go down the path of denying what about 65% of the country believe to be a definite fact, then you put yourself in dangerous political territory. It means that the majority of the country thinks you are either incompetent or know exactly what is going on but are lying. Really, I don't know which one is better.
